This is such a sweet piece! The hearts in the center are repeated on the edge. Tip: Don't make 6 like I did. Make only 5 in the center. On rounds 4 and 5, don't be discouraged by rippling because it will all work out once you've finished both rows. I have used size 20 Lizbeth for this doily.
This peach motif I made from a Russian website. I apologize--I didn't record the site!
Pictured here: Left, Mystery Doily from Craftree, Center top and right top, motif from Japanese book (pictured below) and center bottom and right bottom, heart motif from Lyn Morton's book (pictured below).
All these threads are size 40 Lizbeth except the purple one, which is size 20 Twirlz. I like the tweed effect of the Twirlz, but it is hard to see the stitches while working it and you lose stitch definition when complete as well.
As always, I am not counting multiples of same motif in my count.
Beautiful tatting all round :-)))
ReplyDeleteWow that is a lot of tatting and a bunch to take in soooo beautiful!. Hey what size thread do you think the Sulky blendables are? and love the colors on your mystery doily from craftree and the Heart Doily is a real sweety too. Great post!

Madtatter, 30 or 40 size?
ReplyDeleteThanks, all, for the kind comments.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on finishing the Valentine doily - a wonderful design! I love the colors you used! It was very generous of Dorota (Land of Lace) to give us this free pattern. I'm amazed it worked out for you, having six hearts in the center! However, I am having difficulty finding the pattern for the center! She seems to have two blogs - an older and a newer one - and I can't find rounds 1 and 2! Are they in her earlier blog? I'm just now catching up on your blog!
ReplyDeleteReturning again to let you know I DID find the beginning of the pattern. On her blog she has an 'index' on the left side, and I clicked on 'Patterns' and it took me to all the posts about this wonderful doily, even her changes! Again, I think you did a great job, and it worked out well with the six hearts! It really can be displayed year-round!
ReplyDeleteOh excellent, Kathy. I'm surprised it worked out too. It's a bit ruffly but I think it will work fine when I block it.
